UK universities need not fear that the supply of Chinese students will dry up any time soon, following the latest edict from China's Ministry of Education. It has forbidden students in China from renting off-campus accommodation, instructing them to live in university dormitories. These typically accommodate four to eight students and serve as bedroom, study and lounge, with the electricity cut off at 11pm and doors locked at midnight. The move is unlikely to find favour with undergraduates. A disgruntled student at the Renmin University of China in Beijing said that life in a six-man dorm was exactly what drove him to a private air-conditioned flat - so that he could finally get a good night's sleep.
