Congratulations to this week's winners of the Institute of Physics's annual awards. The 16 laureates include brothers George and Peter Kalmus, who each won a medal and prize.

George, formerly head of particle physics at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire and a noted leader in the scientific community, is a fellow of the Royal Society. Fingers crossed that this latest award brings Peter, who has devoted much energy to explaining physics to schoolchildren, a step closer to the coveted postnomial.
