National Audit Office eyes research councils

The National Audit Office is considering whether to investigate the management of grants by the government's research councils. Each year the NAO does 50 "value for money" studies of different areas of government spending. The respective areas are chosen from a much larger pool of preliminary studies undertaken to decide where to concentrate the NAO's attention. The NAO will decide on which areas of spending its detailed investigations are to target in the next few months.
