The Government is not doing enough to reduce potential risks of nanotechnology, the Council for Science and Technology has said. The CST's Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies Review , published yesterday, says the Government has spent £600,000 annually over five years to research toxicology, health and environmental impacts of nanotechnology. This compares with £90 million spent in 2004 alone on research into new nanoscience applications. The CST wants future government programmes supporting nanoscience to include ring-fenced money for research into risks.
