MPs: use new system

Universities should accept the new Curriculum 2000 A-levels system when considering applications, MPs said this week.

The education and skills select committee's report into A-level standards says that universities must accept the broader AS and A2-level curriculum and adapt admissions procedures.

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service has introduced a tariff system to help universities judge the relative worth of new qualifications, but many admissions tutors say they will continue to base admissions decisions on A-level grades, not tariff points.
