Edwin Morgan, Glasgow's Poet Laureate and Scotland's first National Poet, has donated his personal collection of 70 paintings, mostly by eminent Scottish artists, to Glasgow University, where he is professor emeritus.
Alan Riach, Glasgow's head of Scottish literature, said Professor Morgan, a Glasgow graduate, had always felt great loyalty to the university.
"It was no surprise that when, as a young graduate, Edwin Morgan was offered a place to undertake research at prestigious Oxford University, turned it down in favour of a lecturing post at his department in Glasgow," Dr Riach said.
