More power in new synchrotron

十一月 6, 1998

Britain's new synchrotron source will cost about Pounds 170 million to build, science minister Lord Sainsbury told the House of Commons science and technology committee. The source will replace the existing machine at Daresbury and is expected to be up to 10,000 times more powerful. It will enable scientists to shine new light on the structure and functions of atoms and molecules. The Wellcome Trust has already agreed to pay Pounds 110 million and the government has allocated Pounds 35 million over the next three years. Lord Sainsbury said a further Pounds 30 million would have to be found by government.
