The University of Abertay Dundee is answering the call to make mobile phone games faster because of fears that Europe is falling behind the US and Japan.
Abertay is part of a consortium of computer and mobile-phone technology experts, alongside German firm Siemens, that plans to convert its cellulars into portable leisure centres.
Peter Astheimer, director of Abertay's International Centre for Computer Games and Virtual Entertainment, said: "At home, people play for hours on their Playstations, but they'll maybe only use a mobile phone game for a few minutes. One of the biggest problems is connecting mobile players in real time. We need to get that time down to make it possible for lots of players to compete against each other at virtually the same time."
