Military boost to civilians

DEFENCE-related technologies will benefit civilian life over the next ten years, but civilian developments will pose military risks, according to the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency. Giving evidence to the House of Commons science and technology committee, DERA chief executive John Chisholm and technical director Adrian Mears said advanced sensors will help in cars and civil security systems. But technologies such as those in biotechnology could pose significant military risks.
