Mediator to help settle staff contracts strike

Strike action in Scotland's new-university sector has continued for a second week as management and the Educational Institute of Scotland clashed over a call for intervention by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. Management said this week it had written to ACAS, accepting its offer of help in resolving the dispute over contracts for new staff.

But the EIS University Lecturers' Association insisted that on the eve of the two-day strike, management had not accepted the conciliation offer, since not all institutions had been consulted.
