Meaning of ILT membership

九月 11, 1998

Membership will not be mandatory - for the time being. However institutions could make membership a condition of employment or promotion.

The objective is for all institutions to provide an accredited professional training programme (APEL) for lecturers with many employers having ILT membership as part of their staff contracts.

Individuals would become members by completing an accredited training programme or by presenting evidence of achievement based on APEL and judged against ILT criteria.

There will be two main membership categories: Associate - for individuals associated with the profession but without direct responsibility for student learning, eg lab technicians.

Member - on completion of an accredited route. Junior members will be offered a specified range of services before achieving full membership.

To maintain status members must keep evidence of having undertaken a minimum level of continuing professional development each year.

For an institution to receive accreditation from the ILT for its training courses, two assessors will carry out one-day visits. Reviews will be repeated every five years.
