Maturity matters

二月 27, 1998

Congratulations on highlighting the problems faced by mature students. The Dearing report did not consider the impact of fees on mature students despite their numbers in the undergraduate population. The situation of mature students, including many single parents, has been made worse by Labour government policies. Students who want to get off welfare to study for degrees are not helped but penalised.

The impact of funding changes will be that universities will become more elitist and many mature students will be discouraged from studying for degrees by the prospect of lifelong debt.
