A group of doctors who studied medicine at St Andrews University have finally graduated more than 30 years after beginning their course, writes Olga Wojtas.
The 33 "lost medics", some of whom are pictured above, were affected when Dundee University split from St Andrews in the late 1960s, resulting in the loss of St Andrews' full medical degree.
The students transferred to Dundee for the fourth year of their six-year course, graduating in 1973. But when they were preparing for their 30-year reunion this year, they asked St Andrews for recognition of their time at Scotland's most ancient university.
St Andrews awarded them a BSc, on the same day that it conferred an honorary degree on their teacher, Kenneth Lowe, a former Queen's physician.
The university recently reinstated its medical research degree, also lost in the split.
