(Photograph) - London's vice-chancellors last week called for more money when they met Stephen Twigg, minister for young people and learning, to discuss links between higher education and schools.
David Rhind, convenor of the London Higher Education Consortium and vice-chancellor of City University, said: "We are very aware of the problems that many of London's primary and secondary schools face.
"As the government has said, we have got to work hard to raise pupils'
aspirations and improve recruitment and retention across the capital. London's universities and colleges are playing an important role in tackling some of these problems. We want to build on this work, but we will need the support of the government to do so."
