London South Bank University - Poor ranking prompts attack

A university has issued a statement on its website arguing that league tables do not "tell the true story" after it was placed bottom in a ranking produced by a national newspaper. London South Bank University, which came 113th in The Independent's guide, said the data and methodologies were "opaque and often flawed". The university said that some areas in which it did best were largely ignored by compilers: those included the part-time students who make up 43 per cent of its student body; its courses in nursing, midwifery and allied health professions; and its support for students with no family history of higher education. LSBU urged students who are considering studying at the university to note that "league tables do not tell our story, and do not demonstrate the value which thousands of graduates have gained from their study here".
