IBM Education is offering European universities a free package of Linux solutions software.

Linux, the popular open source server operating system and the platform of choice in many institutions, has been held back from wider use by the lack of readily available applications. IBM is offering its application tools to universities, enabling them to exploit features available on other platforms. It has already ported many of its key applications, server software and development tools to Linux. All of these are available free to universities. The IBM applications developer kit includes IBM Java developers kit and runtime, groupware and email server, a Java-based web application server and an interactive Java development environment.
