Life sciences pursue more time and money

A working group has been set up to press for four-year PhDs and increased stipends in the life sciences. The group, established by the UK Life Sciences Committee, will draw up proposals and collate evidence from September 2000. UKLSC chairman Martin Raff said: "An increase in stipends to match those offered by the Wellcome Trust is essential, but the addition of a common first year is equally important."
