Cell scientists win Nobel
Scientist Sir Paul Nurse, director of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, was today awarded the Nobel prize for medicine. He shares it with his colleague Timothy Hunt and US scientist Leland Hartwell. The award is for their work on regulators of the cell cycle.

Dundee University is advertising posts for a centre for health informatics that could revolutionise healthcare. The £1.8 million centre will bring together biological, clinical and social scientists to develop better treatment.
MBA applications soar
London Business School has announced a record year for its full-time MBA programme. Applications were up 47 per cent, the largest ever year-on-year increase. The school has increased its intake from 265 to 305 students.
Peer reviewers offered cash incentive
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has launched a scheme to speed up peer review. Points will be awarded to departments for responses received on time. Once a year the points will be added up and converted to cash.
