Public not ready for GM products
Wider public debate is needed before any decision is taken to commercialise genetically modified crops, ministers were warned today. The message comes from the Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission.

Scots innovation gets £1m boost
Scottish innovators are to benefit from £1 million in a bid to turn research into commercial success, enterprise and lifelong learning minister Wendy Alexander has announced. Computer scientists at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow will receive £200,000 to develop digital technology that could reduce the cost of film-making and television production.

Midges select their victims
Sally Singh of Edinburgh University has confirmed that some of us are more prone to midge attacks than others. Midges, the scourge of the Scottish summer, have 500 sensory hairs on their antennae and are more attracted to certain people’s sweat.
