Colleges promised funds to close disparity
The government has promised more funding for further education colleges to narrow the gap in resources between them and school sixth forms and sixth-form colleges. In a short parliamentary debate, junior education minister Ivan Lewis recognised the disparity in funding between the two types of institution.
Gene-therapy manufacture site opened
The site of Britain’s first purpose-built centre for the manufacture of gene therapies was being opened today by Scottish enterprise minister Wendy Alexander. The £100 million Biocampus is at Gowkley Moss Farm, near Penicuik, Midlothian. The Roslin Institute, which cloned Dolly the sheep, will be involved in the project.
