V-cs press new government for more cash
Vice-chancellors lost no time today in pressing the government for more cash for universities after Labour’s second landslide election victory. Baroness Warwick, chief executive of Universities UK, said: “Universities are already working hard to increase access to higher education for those from under-represented groups. But this cannot be done on the cheap — this expansion is expensive, and universities need resources that fully match these additional costs.”

University of East London names new leader
Michael Thorne, vice-principal of Napier University, has been appointed vice-chancellor of the University of East London. He will take up the post in December, succeeding Frank Gould.
