Universities urged to go green
Universities and colleges were today urged to become more involved in promoting sustainable development, in the third report of the sustainable development education panel chaired by Sir Geoffrey Holland, vice-chancellor of Exeter University.

Education partnership gets new director
Kate Anderson has been appointed director of the Higher Education and Training Partnership, which aims to improve access to post-16 education. Ms Anderson, director of education and institutions at the Further Education Funding Council, takes up the post on May 1.

UWE bids to make food safer
A project to produce cheap and effective sensors to detect potentially harmful organophosphate residues in raw foods is being coordinated by the University of the West of England. It is part funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and also involves Leeds University.
