Scots 2,000 examiners down
The Scottish Qualifications Authority is short of more than 2,000 examiners one month before this year’s examinations begin. Scottish education minister Jack McConnell said the shortfall was causing “particular concern”.

Foreign Office voted top for jobs
The Foreign Office has been voted ideal employer in a poll of undergraduates. The survey of 5,700 students at 43 universities by research and management consultants Universum put Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin group in second place. The Cabinet Office and GCHQ were in the top 20.

UEL external reviews under threat
Staff at the University of East London fear database problems and a lack of capital investment could jeopardise external reviews. A quality assurance and enhancement committee report says difficulties with the student records system have led to a lack of data and performance indicators.
