OECD shows UK academics paid pittance
Pay rates for British academics are among the lowest in the developed world, lecturers’ association Natfhe claimed today. Average pay in the UK was £21,800 a year compared with £72,700 in Canada and £72,400 in Italy on a comparable basis, according to figures from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The UK was ranked 10th of 17 nations.
Copyright appeal from non-UUK affiliates
Higher education organisations not represented by Universities UK are protesting to the Copyright Licensing Agency that December’s Copyright Tribunal ruling should also apply to them. The tribunal ruled that separate charges for copying course packs should be scrapped and that royalties should be set at £4 per full-time student.
Research appeal to Edinburgh's octogenarians
People born in Edinburgh hospitals in the 1920s are being asked to take part in an Edinburgh University study to explore links between low birthweight and its effect on thinking skills in later life.
