Neighbourhood renewal cash unveiled
A £21.8 million programme to help people transform deprived neighbourhoods was unveiled by the the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions today. There will be grants of up to £5,000 for training and advice or to finance study visits from Community Learning Chests.

Teacher shortages could scupper the chances of government education targets being met next year. Schools watchdog Ofsted warned in its annual report today that the search for staff was distracting headteachers’ attention from ensuring that the literacy strategy was being implemented properly.
