Think-tank attacks 'regressive' funding policies
Students should pay higher tuition fees and interest on their loans, according to the country’s leading Blairite think-tank. The Institute for Public Policy Research report, Opportunity for Whom? , attacks current student support and higher education funding policies as regressive. It recommends increasing tuition fees to £2,150, double the current maximum, and in the longer term allowing universities to charge different levels of fees. It also recommends charging market interest on student loans.

McCartney school vigil for Beatle George
A vigil for the former Beatle George Harrison who died last week, is being held at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts tonight. It will coincide with the scattering of his ashes on the River Ganges. The institute, founded by Sir Paul McCartney, is on the site of his former school.
US suffers emotional fallout from September 11
Americans are enjoying less fulfilling sex lives since September 11, according to a Yale academic. Philip Sarrel, professor of obstetrics, gynaecology and psychiatry, says he has seen an increase in new patients while existing ones reported worsened symptoms since September 11. Problems include erectile dysfunction for men and inability to experience orgasm among women.
'D' is for Delia
TV chef Delia Smith today said it was “extraordinary” that her name had been included in the latest edition of the Collins Dictionary. Her Christian name alone, synonymous with no-nonsense recipes, has entered the language in phrases such as “doing a Delia”.
