US student may face spy charge

An American exchange student who was sentenced to three years’ jail in Russia in April for drug offences, could face a charge of espionage on the evidence of a Russian biologist who says Tobin tried to recruit him to spy. Tobin’s lawyer says the allegations are false and are part of a Russian ploy to prevent Tobin being released before the end of his sentence.

Erasmus has 'sexual' bonus, says Eco

Umberto Eco feels that the benefits of the Erasmus programme of student exchanges among European universities are as much “sexual”, as directly cultural. Speaking at a conference in Bilbao, Spain, the Italian superstar semiologist said Erasmus encouraged bilingual relationships and mixed marriages across Europe's national frontiers.
