Man defamed by university wins $1m
A former student who claimed that Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington State,  had spoiled his hope of a teaching career by telling state officials that he had an allegation of sexual assault on his record has been awarded $1.15 million in damages by the Washington State Supreme Court. The court held that his civil rights had been violated and that he had been defamed when the university refused to issue a certificate of good behaviour. No charge was pressed by the alleged victim, who made a deposition denying that she had been assaulted.

Nigeria orders v-cs to open campuses
The Nigerian government is reported to have ordered vice-chancellors to reopen universities on June 11, effectively ending a strike by academics over implementation of a pay agreement.
