Spanish BSE lab faces inquiry
Spain’s BSE testing centre is fighting allegations that laboratory conditions at its University of Zaragoza base are unsafe. The laboratory is accused of sharing dissection equipment with other departments and failing to inform staff of possible health risks. An inquiry is under way.

Uruguayan lecturers stage polythene protest
Staff at Uruguay’s Republic University draped the building in polythene to create the illusion of physical collapse as part their campaign for better pay. The lecturers, who have the support of leading literary and artistic celebrities, have so far invested more than $35,000 in the protests.
