Lampeter plugs Welsh

六月 11, 1999

Students can now learn Welsh on the internet from the University of Wales, Lampeter.

Designed as a pathway to higher education in Wales, the course enables beginners to progress to the fluency expected of a first-year undergraduate.

Course director David Thorne said: "We will have at least 100 students by Christmas."

"We have had a lot of enthusiasm from overseas. During our first two days we had students registering from the United States, Canada and Paris as well as the United Kingdom."

A password gets students on to the system. Students pay at a rate of Pounds 20 per 20 credits after the first 40, which are free and cover vocabulary and pronunciation. Sound is provided, to ensure accurate pronunciation. A certificate in higher education is awarded to those who achieve 120 credits.
