King's College London - Fertility unit opens doors

Dawn Primarolo, the Minister for Public Health, has opened a £4 million fertility unit in London. The assisted conception unit, a joint collaboration between King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, runs the largest and most successful pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) programme in the UK. PGD is a specialised treatment for couples who carry an inherited genetic condition such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease or Huntington's disease that could cause serious health problems for their children.
