St Edmund Hall, Oxford, was last week reported to have banned alcohol from undergraduate social events. A clarification by the dean on the college's website states that he had lifted the ban in response to new guidelines on booking rooms. It is just as well. The next two items on the site announce forthcoming old boys' events: "City Aularians under 30s drinks party" and a "London drinks reception for all Aularian law professionals".
