Ian Lovecy, senior strategy adviser at the University of Wales, Bangor, has hit on a novel way of selling higher education to people with no experience of it. Use the language of the lottery, he explained to a gathering of university administrators in Loughborough last week. "Buy a ticket for higher education and you might win a good job, and if you don't win you don't have to pay for your ticket," he said.
