Investing in the name

Plymouth University has blown thousands of pounds on redesigning its logo. The logo - a terracotta circle with three stripes across its upper half - now sports a background water effect and an updated typeface. But that is not all.

"The words 'University' and 'Plymouth' are made more distinct and readable by the insertion of the words 'The' and 'Of' between them," gushes an article in the staff newsletter.

"A finishing touch of an ellipse around the central core allows us to emphasise the word 'University', thus stressing our status in the higher education sector."

Let us hope Plymouth's underpaid and overworked staff agree that it is money well spent.
