Thirty-year-old data on maternal diet and weight may help fight India's diabetes and heart-disease epidemic. Scientists at the MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit won a grant from the British Heart Foundation to study glucose/insulin metabolism and heart disease in India. In the 1960s, 3,000 women and their babies were studied. The youngsters, measured throughout childhood, are now adults. Researchers will examine the data for a link between the size and diet of a mother and the development of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes in her children.
