Lord Kinnock, chair of the British Council, knows a bit about marketing. While chairing a meeting with Universities UK he warned that the sector would have to think hard about how to lure overseas students, bearing in mind that often their knowledge of Britain doesn't go beyond David Beckham and Diana, Princess of Wales. He urged Michael Driscoll, vice-chancellor of Middlesex University, to make more of the latter part of his institution's name. A cunning ploy perhaps. At least until Professor Driscoll revealed that his university's website is banned in several countries for daring to have copulation in its title.
