Strathclyde University believes there are lies, damned lies and The Times League Table. The university was miffed by its relatively low showing, especially as, for example, it was marked low on accommodation, when large numbers of its students live at home.
Planning director David Newall ran the results through his computer, giving higher weightings to what he considered the most important factors, teaching, value added, graduate employment and research, and found that Strathclyde came joint fifth with Cambridge, after Oxford, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Durham.
Even better, when the table was based simply on teaching quality, value added, and graduate employment, Strathclyde came top.
