In flagrante, now in extremis

Getting things off your chest in a weblog may be cathartic but perhaps not career-enhancing. A University of California academic landed himself in trouble after relating the story of finding two students having sex in his office one day. Far from being shamefaced, the students threatened to report him for sexual harassment. No formal complaint was lodged, but someone forwarded a copy of the blog to the Office of the President of the University and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD). In his latest post, the academic writes: "I'm interested in hearing from the person who forwarded this to the Office of the President. Did he or she think I handled the situation inappropriately? Can he or she suggest how I could have handled it better? All recommendations must be filed in the comments section before 10am Friday, as that's when I have to meet with an OEOD investigator."
