The Institute of Commonwealth Studies is to receive £200,000 from the University of London to help safeguard its future.

The cash will support restructuring plans proposed in a recent review panel report. The panel, chaired by Sir Anthony Kenny, pro vice-chancellor of Oxford University, was set up after the institute, which is part of the university, ran into problems relating to its academic direction and finances.
