The Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals is to be evicted from its London pied-a-terre. The University of London, freeholder of the flat that comes with the post of CVCP chairman, has decided to reclaim use. Current CVCP chairman Howard Newby has never used the place and the university has made it clear that the separation is amicable. The flat is now needed to house visiting scholars instead. But relations between tenant and landlord have been strained recently after the elevation of CVCP chief executive Diana Warwick to Labour peer, to the disgust of London University vice-chancellor Graham Zellick.
