YOUNG people who move to London in the search for upward mobility significantly reduce their prospects of becoming home owners, according to research for the Economic and Social Research Council.
Michael Lyons, of South Bank University, also found that young men and women who migrate to London have rather different "housing careers". Men are more likely to become home owners, but women are more likely to live in "high-status neighbourhoods". He said: "Women have been unable to translate their London labour market gains into participation in the general expansion of home ownership."
