Congratulations to Bryan Davies, ex-chairman of the defunct Further Education Funding Council and a former Labour Party spokesman on higher education.
Mr Davies was appointed "Commander of the Queen's Bodyguard of the Yeomen of the Guard" in last week's Queen's birthday honours. The Diary has been unable to dislodge images of him dressed as a beefeater, leading his assembled forces in renditions of Gilbert and Sullivan tunes.
