Technology giant BAE Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Scottish university, marking its intention to invest £5 million over the next five years to establish four new university partnerships. The deal, signed with Heriot-Watt University, commits the defence company to invest in long-term research projects, provide industrial placements for students and offer the services of guest lecturers at the institution. "Reciprocal secondments" between leading academics and BAE employees are also planned. Three more university partnerships are to be named within the next year.
