Digital mapping specialists have been using their skills to help victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Three members of staff and dozens of students on Bath Spa University's geographic information systems course were among experts worldwide asked to access "before and after" satellite and aerial photographs of the disaster zone. The Bath Spa team then advised relief agencies in Haiti, via a central computer, on the extent of damage to the infrastructure, as well as where refugees were congregating.
