Hefce names teachers at the top of their class

Twenty lecturers who have won £50,000 each in the third annual national teaching fellowship scheme run by the Higher Education Funding Council for England were announced this week.

They are: Diane Bailey, social policy, Birmingham University; Alan Booth, history, Nottingham; Brian Chalkley, geographical sciences, Plymouth; Alan Clements, computing and mathematics, Teesside; Angela Clow, psychology, Westminster; Anne Davidson, health and social sciences, Coventry; Gloria Gordon, human resources, South Bank; Peter Hughes, humanities and environmental studies, Sunderland; Nicholas Jackson, law school, Kent; Pauline Kneale, geography, Leeds; Pamela Knights, English studies, Durham; David Nicholls, history, Manchester Metropolitan; Martha Pennington, language research centre, Luton; Margaret Price, business school, Oxford Brookes; Bob Rotheram, social sciences, Nottingham Trent; Kay Sambell, community studies, Northumbria; Michael Tinker, physics, Reading; Gweno Williams, literature studies, York St John; Michael Winstanley, history, Lancaster; and Jocelyn Wyburd, language centre, Manchester.
