Heather, a lecturer from New Zealand describes how using a formalised storytelling process enabled her to let go of her expectations.
"I was working with another lecturer on a student project. They had a week to create a project that would be significant and meaningful to them. We had develop learning outcomes but the students had control over the process and the type of project. We had to let them move through themselves and not guide or direct them. It was worrying in termsof how the outcomes would be achieved.I was nervous about my ability to hold back and wasanxious because my students were in charge of their own learning. It wasonly after I sharedmy experience through a formalised storytelling session that I fully realisedthe significance of what I had learned from the experience. I was learning howto learn. It changed my teachingpractice."
