Lovemore Madhuku, a University of Zimbabwe law lecturer and leader of the country's National Constitutional Assembly, is said to have been beaten by riot police and left for dead last week. The alleged attack took place before a planned demonstration. Dr Madhuku said it was police who beat him and left him in a pool of blood near the national sports stadium.
