Gymslips and stiff collars

十月 14, 2010

A university has opened up its archives to reveal life as a student in the UK's capital more than a century ago. London South Bank University's online archive catalogue allows the public access to its historical records - dating back to its origins as the Borough Polytechnic Institute in 1892. The collection includes student magazines, press cuttings, trophies and annual reports. Historical photographs show students baking bread, starching collars and vaulting in the gymnasium, reflecting the institution's original aim: "To promote the industrial skill, general knowledge, health and wellbeing of young men and women."
