Staff in the London, Birmingham and Glasgow offices of the soon-to-be-wound-up Higher Education Quality Council have been warned they may have to consider moving to "somewhere north of Bristol". The new Quality Assurance Agency for higher education, which will take over the HEQC's work, has said this is where it is considering setting up its headquarters.

A quick check has led staff to conclude that Cheltenham is the likely location. For as chance would have it, Cheltenham is only about five miles away from the village of Longdon, where one finds the lovely home of the QAA's chief executive, John Randall.
