(The Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research (Zicer) has been named Low-Energy Building of the Year. Zicer, on the University of East Anglia campus, was given the award by a building industry magazine. It was sponsored by the Carbon Trust, the government body that encourages reductions in carbon emissions. Zicer - which opened in September 2003 and is named after the Government's first chief scientific adviser - keeps cool by circulating night air through its hollow floor slabs. As well as using solar energy, generated by photovoltaic panels, it has a heat recovery system that retrieves heat from expelled air.
